The Director of the Casco Antiguo office (OCA), Yessenia Sánchez chaired a cross-sectional meeting at which she concluded with the development of an inter-agency disaster response plan within the Monumental Set of the Historic Centre of Panama City.

Sánchez explained that after 6 months of continuous inter-institutional work it was concluded with the drafting of a document that sets out the specific coordinated actions to be undertaken by each institution in the event of threats such as fires, earthquake, floods, tsunami or other forms of natural phenomenon.

A Unified Operations Room will be established and will be located at the OCA for the co-ordination of actions to be followed with the aim of saving the lives of people within the Monumental Set of the historic centre in the event of a disaster, Sanchez detailed.

The Emergency Response Plan for evacuations will be put into place on June 13, 2023, as part of the national drill that will coordinate SINAFEC and officials of two institutions that are at Casco Antiguo, and will have to go to two secure meeting points that are the Plaza de la Independencia and the other Plaza Bolívar.

A number of agencies such as SINAFREC, National Police, SPI, Fire Workers, Cultural Ministry, San Felipe Communal Board, MINSA, Sume 911, ATTT, MIVIOT, Presidency and Security have been involved in the development of this plan.
