The History of MiCultura
The Ministry of Culture of Panama, a former National Institute of Culture (INAC), is the ministry dedicated to the dissemination and promotion of the arts and culture in the Republic of Panama. It had been established for many years at the old Court of Justice, situated at the end of the Monumental Set of Las Bóvedas, at the Casco AntiguoQ of Panama City. The National Institute of Culture was established on June 6, 1974 with the aim of promoting, guiding and directing the cultural process at the national level.
MiCultura is dedicated to preventing illegal traffic of archaeological pieces, keeping the 5 monumental sets and real estate declared national historic monuments, including those declared by the UNESCO World Heritage. We also maintain the administration of the Balboa Theater, Anita Villalaz Theater, Colón's Center for Art and Culture, Metropolitan Cultural Center, City of The Arts and 42 Biblioteca at national level.
Act 90 of 15 August 2019 - Ministry of Culture
The Ministry of Culture was established as the leading body of the State with regard to the promotion and protection of cultural rights, cultural expressions, creative processes and Panamanian cultural heritage, intercultural dialogue and cultural cooperation and all activities to promote sustainable development through culture and public policies and culture at national level.
Act 175 of 3 November 2020 - General of Culture
The Act aims at establishing principles, regulations, powers and commitments of the State, aimed at designing and implementing an inclusive and participatory public policy that will stimulate and safeguard cultural expressions and creative processes in the country, the Panamanian cultural heritage, intercultural dialogue and international cultural cooperation as necessary means to promote the exercise of cultural rights and sustainable development.
