The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) and the organization of the Andrés Bello Convention for Educational, Scientific, Technology and Cultural Integration (CAB) signed a dedicated partnership agreement for the design and implementation of Panama's Culture Satellite account.
The agreement signed by the Minister, Giselle González Villarrué and the executive secretary and legal representative of the organization of the convention Andrés Bello, Delva Odalys Batista aims to implement an information system that will allow economic valuation of cultural and creative goods and services and that will contribute to decision-making, formulation and appraisal of public and private policies in the cultural sector.
The agreement also includes an analysis and management of technical studies required for the construction and implementation of the Satellite Account and consultancies for the development of information and data collection and capture tools.
For the development of this agreement an amount of 400 thousand dollars from the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) and 151,843. 60 from the budget of the institution for fiscal validity 2023- 2014
The Minister of Culture, González Villarrué stated that with the signing of the document, "Panama advanced a higher step in decision-making to quantify and classify the contribution that artistic and cultural activities generate to the country, in the construction of public policies that will allow us to integrate and consolidate the mission with which the Ministry of Culture was established."
In only 3 years after being a Ministry, important goals have been achieved, such as this that will allow economic valuation of cultural and creative goods and services of their generating activities, so as to contribute to decision-making, formulation and evaluation of public and private policies in the cultural sector, emphasized the incumbent of Culture.
Meanwhile, the executive secretary of the Andrés Bello Convention, Delva Odalys Batista undertook that the international body she represents will make every effort to have "Panama's Cultural Satellite account implemented by February next year."
He added "this is the mechanism that will put Panama and other countries of the region at a human dimension to respect the right to culture, because the economy will be measured."
