Panama promotes inclusive artistic training through movement

Panama September 24, 2026. The initiative, organized by the Office of Equal Opportunities and Gender, is by the Colombian deaf artist Christian Briceño, who shares throughout this week methods and experiences applied to dance and to processes of inclusive artistic creation.

Lastenia González, director of the Office of Equal Opportunities and Gender, explained that training forms part of an investment project that aims to generate tools that can be multiplied at educational and artistic centers throughout the country.

González noted that 60 teachers have been trained and that planning to extend this project to other provinces by integrating international experiences and new methodologies for inclusive artistic education and while noting that inclusive education should be part of an integral training process for all and with all.

For his part, Christian Briceño emphasized that inclusion goes beyond an interpreter and requires teachers to develop tools to communicate directly with their students. "The teacher adapts to me and I adapt to him," she expressed, explaining the importance of establishing a direct connection with sign tongue, body and movement.

Training addresses issues such as body as communication tool, sign tongue applied to dance, body contact and creation and composition processes with a view to developing inclusive choreographic proposals.

The Vice-Minister of Culture, Arianne Benedetti, emphasized that these spaces allow opportunities for people with disabilities to develop their skills and find new forms of expression.
"Our job is to provide tools and create opportunities for people with disabilities to fully develop," she said..
The program also includes a master class, dance sessions, meetings with teachers and deaf people and spaces for interchange with Panamanian artists as part of an agenda that aims to expand the application of accessibility and inclusion tools at cultural level.
