With a sample of crafts, culture and ancestral traditions, the Solia Dance Group will mark International Indigenous Peoples Day on Saturday, 8 and Sunday, 9 August at Cathedral Square, at Casco Antiguo with the participation of 17 artisan from the peoples Emberá, Guna, Ngäbe Buglé and Wounaan.

The activity, organized by the dance group Emberá / Wounaan, aims to highlight the cultural wealth of peoples from Panama and to provide a space for artisan to display and market pieces with traditional technologies transmitted from generation to generation so expressed Ovideo Tocamo, an organisation of the activity.

During both days, visitors will be able to appreciate a variety of crafts, including wood carvings, baskets, chaquiras, tissues and other creations that reflect the identity, cosmovision and cultural heritage of the country's indigenous communities.

The activity has an artistic tima where will be presented the different native groups with dances proper to their culture

The commemoration of "International Day of Indigenous Peoples" represents an opportunity to recognize their invaluable contribution to national identity and to promote respect for their traditions, knowledge and artistic expressions.

That initiative was supported by the Ministry of Culture, through the Office of Casco Antiguo, in conjunction with the Mayor's Office of Panama, the San Felipe Communal Board and the Panama Tourism Authority, an institution that united efforts to promote and preserve the country's cultural heritage.

Also on 30 August, the Peatonal Town will be dedicated to the commemoration of the native peoples with the seven indigenous peoples offering a special program to highlight their cultural, artistic and traditional manifestations.
