Panama, July 7, 2025. - The animated feature film "Miposas Negras," a co-production between Spain and Panama has led our country to get three important awards, for the first time, was awarded the Platinum Award for Best Animation Movie, Goya for best animation feature 2025 and as Best Film of the 8th edition of the Ibero-American Animation Awards.

Director David Baute's Black Butterflies is inspired by the true history of three women from different continents who uphold environmental values and seek to raise awareness about climate change, migration and exile.

The Panamanian company Tunche Films by producer César Zelada and the Panamanian studio Filo Animation Studios, under the direction of Fernando Toussaint, was in charge of several of the most complex and overwhelming sequences of the film.

That production has been a milestone for Panama.
The film's technical and artistic level has been highlighted by the Panamanian studio in its work of encouraging several of the most important and complex scenes of the film - from violent episodes of climate disasters to unforgettable passages of legends and nightmares - fundamental sequences for the visual narrative of Black Butterflies. A complex animation work with very specific needs, filled with sensitivities and art throughout its splendour.

César Zelada from Tunche Films remarked that "Black Butterflies" have allowed the world to see what we are capable of here. "From the work of Panamanian cheerleaders, who brought first level quality and creativity to the immense talent of Reubén Blades, who after knowing the project did not hesitate to join with a wonderful song that today forms an essential part of the film."

He added that his "Black Butterflies" awards and awards are a clear message: "Panamanian animation has a future, has talent and has a place in global industry," Zelada concluded.

Fernando Toussaint said "for us it has been an honor to contribute to a project of this magnitude and scope, this recognition shows that Panama is ready to have an outstanding place in international animation."

With these awards, Panama doesn't only get these important awards, but reaffirms its presence on the map of Ibero-American animation by opening the way for future collaborations and strengthening national talent.
