The Ministry of Culture held a press conference at Colón Province as part of the meeting "MiCultura in April." The event was held at the Colón Center for Art and Culture and brought together journalists, authorities and members of the community to share with them the advances and artistic and cultural initiatives that have been undertaken at that institution and to highlight the contributions of the region.

During the day, the Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera, announced a number of activities that will be held in April, including the presentation of the work "Ciudad de Piedra" on Sunday 13th at the same cultural centre.

The National Symphony Orchestra will also have three free concerts during the month:
• April 15th at the Balboa Theater with a Baroque music program under the direction of master German Pinzzo and soloist Gabija Laurinaityte.
• April 23 at Colón with the participation of master Ricardo Risco and soloist Daniel Galvéz.
• April 24, again at the Balboa Theater with free entrance.

One of the most important announcements was the implementation of the Cultural Incentives Regime established by Executive Decree No. 14 of September 29, 2023. That policy includes the Cultural Fomento Certificado, which grants natural or legal persons a 35% exemption from income tax or ITBMS for investments in infrastructure, projects and cultural heritage.

The conference highlighted the advances of the Colón Center for Art and Culture, which has been established as a space for citizen participation, artistic training and local talent promotion. The director, Abel Aronategui, presented his main actions for the enjoyment and promotion of the arts.

In terms of heritage, architect Joel Ceas, with responsibility for the Office of the Historical Center, shared progress with the restoration and conservation of the urban and architectural heritage of Colón.

The national director of Cultural Heritage, Yamileth Stanziola, had been involved with initiatives to rescue the underwater heritage and restore iconic sites such as the Wilcox House and the Morgan Batteries.

In compliance with the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003), information about the nomination "Building techniques of quincha houses and their pintering boards" was expanded and a proposal was put forward with the file "Teatro de la Revolución Dule: memoria y identima" for inclusion in the list representing the Intangible Cultural Heritage of mankind.

The participation of Panama was also announced for the first time at the XV Festival of the Sweet and Traditional Food, to be held in Colombia during Holy Week. Two bearers of culinary knowledge will represent the gastronomic wealth of Colón, Portobelo and Western Panama at this important cultural exchange.

The event closed with an emotional tribute to two fundamental figures of the colonial artistic life: cultural manager Rita Wong and theatricist Anselmo Cooper, who received special recognition for their invaluable contribution to the cultural development of the province. Minister Herrera was charged with giving up the awards on behalf of the Panamanian state.

Following the conference, the media participated in a guided tour by architect Joel Coras through the historic centre of Colón, where the main buildings and monumental sets were highlighted and the importance of the restoration and conservation projects currently under way was explained.
