At the 84th edition of the Feria Internacional de La Chorro, the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) successfully launched the Casa Artesanal, a space that brings together more than 20 artisan from the province of Panama West, with an emphasis on the best of the cultural and creative wealth of the country.
The inaugural event included the traditional ribbon cut by the national director of Handicrafts, Cristina de la Guardia, the regional director of La Chorro, Noemí Guevara Mock, with María del Pilar Dejanon, an advisor of the Superior Office and artisan, in an atmosphere filled with joy that was accompanied by the vibrant Chorro Cumbia performed by Mami Chacón as a whole.
The pieces exhibited at the Casa Artesanal include cuttings, molas, chaquiras, hats, goldsmiths, jewelry, tremks and other typical and artisan products that reflect the care, dedication and talent of those who work to keep Panamanian tradition alive.
Cristina de la Guardia, National Director of Crafts emphasized: "It's deeply inspiring to see how José Chong transmits his legacy to new generations, working with his granddaughter, or how Rosa Mojica inculcates his daughter's love for crafts. That doesn't only guarantee the continuity of our traditions but also strengthens pride for our culture."
Also, from the Guardia reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Culture to the artisans of the country by expressing "you are inspiration and pride for Panama. From the Ministry of Culture we are committed to walk with you, to support and to strengthening this path that you have built with so much effort, dedication and love."
Isaura Garson, an outstanding handicraft specialized in jewelry, commented: "That fair offers us an opportunity to share and sell our products. I work with resin, necklaces and semi-precious stones and this space is key to growing up."
José Chong, with his 10-year experience as an artisan, expressed: "We do this work with care and love. The fair helps us not only to pay our expenses but to bring food to our homes."
The Feria Internacional de La Chorro: a cultural meeting for the whole family
It will be open until February 2, offering a range of artistic, cultural and entertainment activities.
