The Spanish Chancellery of Panama was the stage of a conversation with UN Special Rapporteur Muluk- Anne Miti-Drummond, about the enjoyment of human rights by people with apbinism.

During the event, she presented the conclusions of her official visit to the country, held from 28 August to 7 September 2023.

In her report, the UN representative gave a detailed analysis of challenges faced by people with apbinism with respect to human rights. She emphasized challenges to full access to fundamental rights such as health, especially for persons with disabilities, as well as the right to education and employment.

Those attending the event included Katherine Buckton, National Director of Cultural Rights and Citizenship, Lastenia González, National Director of Equal Opportunities and Gender and Ricardo Castillo, lawyer and member of the National Commission for Human Rights of the National Government. 

The representatives, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, reported on the existing convention on cultural cooperation, with the main aim of strengthening their access to and enjoyment of their cultural rights.

The meeting did not only make it clear how challenges people face with apbinism have been met but also strengthen the commitment of governmental institutions and international agencies to ensure an inclusive and human rights-respecting environment.
