MIDES and My Culture Open First Cultural Artistic Ludoteca, A Learning and Fun Space for Children

Social Development Minister Beatriz Carles and Culture Minister Maruja Herrera held with a group of children the opening of the first Cultural Artistic Ludoteca of the country, located at the Rogelio Sinan Library, in the City of the Arts.
That innovative space has been developed by the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) so that children and their families enjoy activities such as playing, painting, coloring and reading while they are stimulated in different areas of learning: storyteller, STEAM, art and painting.
Minister Beatriz Carles emphasized that the Ludlibrary will work as a haven for imagination, learning, fun and culture. "Today we are not only celebrating the opening of this space but we have reaffirmed our commitment to the future generations of Panama through a state policy for early childhood," she said.
For her part, Cultural Minister Maruja Herrera emphasized that this project was born from collaboration with both institutions with the aim of providing a unique tool for social transformation. "Together we are creating a future full of possibilities for our children, building a more powerful society with conscious citizens and with a vision of 'being'," she stated.
The light library will have several thematic stations where children, accompanied by their parents, can paint, play and imagine great adventures with an extensive selection of stories.
The service will be available from Monday to Friday from 8: 00 a.m. to 4: 00 p.m. under an agreement between the MIDES and the Ministry of Culture signed in December 2024.
The main goal of the LudBiblioteca is to promote the integral development of children through play in their free time, through a structured program that includes five work stations: art and painting, STEAM, prechess, storyteller and immersion to reading.
The MIDES also announced that it will soon implement mobile lights, a service that will be offered at public fairs and events as an alternative to care for children under the age of 5.
Currently, MIDES has an extensive portfolio of early childhood services, including 93 care centres (CAIPI) throughout the country with a capacity to care for 3,535 boys and girls.
