The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) commemorated, for the first time, the National Day of Traditional Indumentaries with a colorful parade that highlighted the representative pieces of each province of the country.

That date, 30 October, was established by Section 4 of Act 377 of 23 April 2023 with a view to promoting the study, protection, conservation and transmission of knowledge about traditional Panamanian clothing.
The law also declares these attire as part of the National Cultural Heritage in tribute to the Panamanian anthropologist Reina Torres de Araúz, who visited the country documenting every detail of cultural diversity in the costumes.

The event was held at the Galería de Ciudad de Las Artes, a space that served as a stage for workshops to raise awareness about traditional techniques. The attendees participated in activities such as the production of mocha and the shackling of the pollera's blouse, as well as a workshop about the arrangement of desks, including the placement of clamps and accessories.

Arianne Benedetti, Vice Minister of Culture, emphasized the importance of recognizing and evaluating artisans, researchers, cultural managers and journalists who preserve and promote this immaterial heritage. "That day, on the eve of the month of the Homeland, reminds us that we are a united and diversity-rich country. Thanks to each of you. That October will become a day of heritage education," Benedetti said.
