Students from San Felipe enjoyed a "cultural picnic"

Some 86 students from 4th and 5th grades of educational establishments found at the San Felipe and Santa Ana have been involved in a fun cultural day called "Cultural picnic," organized by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) through the Casco Antiguo office (OCA).

The activity was conducted as part of the International Day of Solidarity and also as part of the events that have been scheduled for the celebration of the centennial of the Plaza de France, a historic and highly valuable site within the Casco Antiguo of Panama City.

On this occasion, the students accompanied by their teachers and some parents had their guided tour of the square and Paseo Esteban Huertas where they met more about the history of this place that was born more than 350 years ago to protect the town's new location from the pirates' attack after the destruction of Panama La Vieja.

They also expanded their knowledge about the French Canal and its actors and the accounts of separatist movements that have been able to turn the free and independent nation we currently enjoy.

The children of the schools of the United States of America, Simón Bolívar, Manuel José Hurtado and Republic of Mexico have been able to link new knowledge of drawings and paints with images of elements that form the monumental ensemble of the Plaza de France and that today represents a symbol of friendship between Panamanian and French.

They finally enjoyed a nutritious snack in the green areas of the square, recreating a "great cultural picnic" with messages that referred to solidarity.

That activity was also attended by officials from the French Embassy in Panama, headed by Thibault Cornut-Gentille, first advisor to the diplomatic entity, who expressed "we are very grateful with Panama that we have appointed this place Plaza de France that reflect the very close links that we have with both countries and we will be organizing a number of activities up to 4 December to celebrate the hundreds of years of this place."

while Yessenia Sánchez, director of the OCA emphasized that this activity "serves with the aim of linking students to spaces of reflection, empathy and knowledge of culture through playful activities and care for the historic heritage of the nation."
