Historical museums, restaurants and sites of interest are currently being interacted by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) with a view to ensuring that persons with disabilities have equal access to culture and enjoy cultural programs and projects.

The San Lorenzo Castle, restaurants such as, Taberne 21 and Napoli, a museum of Contemporary Art, an initiative of the reggae museum in Spanish, National Libraries and the Atrio Mall Shopping Center, among others, are part of the private companies and organisations that have already taken the first step to implement measures to give better care and treatment to people with disabilities.

The MiCultura Cultural Accessibility program includes training, diagnosis, recommendations, guided tours, advice with universal accessibility to achieve access to the site, information and cultural content through accessible infrastructures, Panamanian sign language, Braille system and audio description, among others.

Gabriel González, Deputy Minister of Culture, stated that with this project we "want to leave this teaching and that this will grow, that programs will continue in the next administrations and that they will continue to work on these issues so that people with disabilities will be included and can participate in different cultural spaces.

Edgar Morales person with visual disabilities, who recently visited the castle of San Lorenzo, stated that "the day was interesting. We have to be included in all programs that are performed, because there are many people wanting to participate and come to these locations and enjoy the place and the personnel have to be prepared to receive us."

For his part, Yelitza Nurse, administrative director of the Portobelo and San Lorenzo's Board of Trustees, said that "it has been quite instructive for us and more efficient to receive our visitors is a gain that we hope will be able to implement as soon as possible everything we have been recommended at our disposal, for those with disabilities who venture to come to Colón, get to know and enjoy San Lorenzo's Castle the Royal Chagres.

The State through the Ministry of Culture aims to comply with article 32 of the General Act of Culture, which lays down that public policies will be designed and implemented for persons with disabilities and will be implemented through three programs that are institutional strengthening, cultural accessibility and an expression of your art.
