Hundreds of volunteers participated on Sunday April 23rd at the first day of Beaches and Plates cleanup, called "We care about the Earth and our monuments" at different locations of Casco Antiguo organized by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) with the participation of other government and private sector entities.

families, students, ethnic groups and personnel from different institutions united their efforts to remove from beaches and sites the waste of different materials such as plastics, cans, glass and other products that affect their aesthetics in spaces such as the Independency Places, France, Herrera, Simón Bolívar, Santa Ana, Church and Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, The Company of Jesus, Beayas Baluarte de Las Monjas, Santo Domingo and Noria.

One of the volunteers, Ana Sequera, who participated with his children mentioned "we liked to help, we wanted to serve we wanted to participate in a volunteer, of this type we enjoy the activity that brings us more with families."

The activity included a varied cultural and artistic program that was developed at Plaza V Centenario, where there was an exhibition of figures made with recyclable material, an artisan bazaar, folk presentations, malabarantists' show, dance groups, and children's play and activities and the Chefs de paila program "Sabores de mi Barrio," who offered local cuisine.

During the program, 9 works by the artist Romel Bravo were shown with recyclable material as cars made of metal and parts of refrigeras, sculptures with several types of plastics and animal figures made of tires used.

At the event the Minister of Culture, Giselle González Villarrué gave an appreciation to the artist for his valuable participation in his activity.

Yesenia Sánchez, Director of the Office of the Casco Antiguo expressed "it's up to everyone to care about our historic centre and to create awareness that heritage is fragile and that anything that gets dirty within the Casco Antiguo has an environmentally important impact on monuments."

Sánchez added that, because of the importance of monitoring the site's ornament, it's intended to organize this type of activity once a month with the support of allied entities with the aim of creating awareness of collaboration and contributing to the conservation of heritage.

The activity undertaken as part of the celebration of Earth Day and Sites and Monuments was supported by the National Police, groups of Scouts from Panama, El Benemérito Fompo Reducios, the Communal Boards of Santa Ana and San Felipe and local and local entities and institutions.
