MiCultura and Esri Panama, join for the development of Seiculture

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) and Esri Panama, S.A. have signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim of establishing a formal instrument of co-operation with a view to strengthening the cultural map of the Seiculture platform, providing maintenance and support, which is developed in collaboration with the City of Knowledge Foundation.

Esri is a globally recognised company with reference to global positioning systems. It currently develops and commercializes software for Geographic Information Systems and is one of the leading companies in the sector globally, and this has been valid for his recognition for the generalization of his space data storage formats in the field of vector Geographic Information Systems.

According to José Álvarez Torres, head of the office of technologies at MiCultura explain that "the ministry has the Seiculture platform that's being enriched with different data types, some of them are available in what we call Cultural Map, which has been developed at ArcGis, that provides a web repository of the different layers of information with which the map counts."

"The map of Seiculture allows us to visualize in the territory the cultural resources that appear in the directory, in four of the categories: manifestations, spaces, agents and cultural events. No official programs are visualised on the map, which are typically of national reach," stated Alvarez Torres.

The agreement, signed by Giselle González Villarrué, Minister of Culture and Martha Vega by Esri Panama, lays down that Esri Panama will give Seiculture maintenance and support of the cultural map at no cost and for the duration of the convention that will be extensable of ten years, including the implementation of a cultural map with free and public access with access to editable and free maps with geographical information that can be accessed in different forms and free sources.
