The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) announced through the national film management (DICINE) that from 1 to 30 December the call will be open for interested parties to participate in the Fondo Cine National Competition that will distribute $2.2 million to winners among different categories to be awarded.

González Villarrué explained that for MiCultura it's a very important day because after a pandemic and other known global events that have had an impact on the economic part of the state, we have been able to maintain this fund as "an important pillar for the impetus of national cinema and even with all economic constraints, we have been strong and committed to bringing about this version."

The incumbent of Culture emphasized that Panamanian Cinema has grown quantitatively and qualitatively since 2013, when the first call of the Fondo Cine was made to this place, showing that there has been a strengthening of the Panamanian film industry.

For this call, four categories will be awarded that will distribute $2.2 million among the first three locations of each category that are production of feature fiction and animation, production of documentaries, support to after production in feature and documentaries and development of scripts.

Natural and legal persons of Panamanian nationality registered with the film and audiovisual industry can participate and for more information they can download the bases of the contest at the website www.DICINE.MiCultura.gob.pa

The selection of the winners will be undertaken by a jury composed of international figures with an established track record and with an obligation to keep his or her identity secret until the time of his or her deliberation and his or her projects are expected to participate from 80 to 90.

The National Cinema Fund of Panama was established by Act No. 16 of 2012 that allows the state to provide financial assistance that will be non-replaceable for audiovisual film activities and projects

The event was also attended by MiCultura's film director, Sheila González, and representatives of industry trade unions such as Procinema, Associne and Red Crea.
