MiCultura Highlights Contributions from Father of Murga, Manuel Consuegra

A tribute to Manuel Consuegra, considered "Father of the Murga," an exhibition of carnival dressings and a contiguary are part of the program that takes place free of charge at the Belisario Porras Museum in the district of Las Tablas, complying with all biosecurity measures from February 23 to March 4.
When referring to the figure of Manuel Consuegra, the Minister of Culture (MiCultura), Giselle González Villarrué noted that "his invaluable legacy has been a joy to thousands of his own and foreigners, because music constitutes an art that touches the soul. In this case, the soul of Panamanians."
He added that the path of the Consuegra as a composer of corridors, cuebas and interiors "is a heritage of our country and his musical contributions are an heritage that will last from generation to generation."
In describing the contribution of this Folklorist, the incumbent of Culture held that she became more important as a "tirelessly forging new musical talents, to whom throughout more than 50 years she has inherited his knowledge and experiences, inspiring them with the constancy, discipline, surrender and love of our country's music and culture."
The day of this program began with an exhibition "Decades de una carnaval tableño," at which some of the costumes used by the queens up and down the street of Las Tablas have been shown, the evolution with regard to their production by the artisan accompanied by a sample of photographs where we can see how the carnival of old was.
The moment was opportune to pay a tribute by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) to the trajectory of Manuel Consuegra, with profound respect and admiration and with his continuing legacy that transcends his history with anecdotes, compositions and experiences.
Manuel Consuegra with an emotional but short speech expressed "I have been excited, for a while I have been expecting a recognition as this, because the Carnival of Las Tablas is a very beautiful party. I thank all people for this tribute and let us continue with this, let us not lose them."
The text of the scroll awarded to the "master of the Panamanian murga," Professor Manuel Consuegra highlighted his significant contribution to the Inmaterial Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Panama and that "his valuable cultural legacy to our traditions and Folklore, constitutes an imperishable beacon of our national identity."
