Panama May 22, 2026 - The strengthening of cultural spaces and community development marked the agenda of the special session of the Municipal Council of Santiago, where the Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera, was invited to discuss the initiative of the future Cultural, Sport and Administrative Center of Veraguas.

The meeting was attended by representatives of different corrections, local authorities and members of the Ministry of Culture, who exchanged ideas and approaches about the convention for the conduct of this project, an initiative that aims to become a permanent space for the advancement of the arts, culture and social development of the province.

During the meeting, the General Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Ivis Moreno, explained issues related to the convention on the use and administration of the proposal, and emphasized the importance of establishing mechanisms to allow for the sustainability and proper management of this future cultural space.

Minister María Eugenia Herrera emphasized the relevance of the project and the role of local authorities in the collective construction of this initiative.

He noted his interest in integrating the construction of this centre into future budgetary efforts and reiterated his institutional commitment to strengthening cultural spaces and promoting initiatives that create opportunities for communities.

For their part, local and community authorities expressed their concerns and support for the initiative and emphasized that the project responded to a demand from the province and represented an opportunity for artistic, cultural and socio-economic development in the region.
