PANAMA DRAFT EXPANSION OF its CULTURAL ECOSYSTEM MEDITORING INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIC ALIANZA

Panama, 14 May 2026. - The Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera, received members of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) with a view to presenting the progress and projections of Panamanian cultural policy.
During the meeting, the Minister of the Cultural Portfolio emphasized the importance of international collaboration for the implementation of infrastructure and social development projects in the country.
"From the Ministry of Culture we have been thinking about culture as the most strategic and transformative investment a nation can make, and we understand it as a pillar of social cohesion, the most effective antidote to exclusion and the fundamental motor to achieve truly sustainable human development," Herrera told the delegation of international agencies.
He also explained that the nine-year relationship with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been enabling public policies to be implemented with a smooth and results-oriented approach, with the Panama National Network of Orquestas and Children's and Youth's Corks, with more than 8,000 children and adolescents at the national level, as its main success.
That was precisely how best to welcome high-level officials to propose to them an initial network, children between 3 and 7 years old, a program that has been beneficial to children throughout the national territory as a tool for including and preventing violence.
For the next four years, the Panamanian state has intended to consolidate and maximize this impact through programs such as Latidos del Barrio, which aims to decentralise cultural offer through cultural motivation and learning centers and the "Creative Panama" initiative aimed at strengthening cultural industries.
Those pillars form a strategic portfolio that aims to form human talent, build social infrastructure and generate an economic horizon for the country's artists and managers in collaboration with UNDP.
