Panama City, April 27, 2026. At a solemn ceremony dedicated to the recognition of national literary creation, the outstanding Panamanian writer Ernesto "Neco" Endara received the Rogelio Sinan Award, one of the highest honors awarded to the literary trajectory in the country, as part of the commemoration of the Writer's Day and the Panamanian Writer's Day.

The event, held at the Teatro Áurea Baby Torrijos of the City of Las Artes, brought together government authorities, representatives of the cultural sector, writers and literature lovers, in a tribute that highlighted the creative legacy and the intellectual contribution of Endara to the Panamanian letters.

The ceremony began with an artistic presentation of piano and violin, followed by the projection of the poem Balada from the nude sinus, from Rogelio Sinan, an emblematic figure of national literature.

Later, the writer Javier Alvarado, president of the National Board of Writers and Writers of Panama, emphasized in his intervention the validity, depth and relevance of his work.
The event continued with a dramatized reading of the fourth act of the play "Where the Sun Is Highest," a piece awarded with the National Prize of Literature Ricardo Miró in 1990, considered as a reference to the literary production of Endara in the cultural landscape of the country.

The imposition of the Rogelio Sinan Medal, together with the surrender of the Executive Resolution, the official scroll and the prize of ten thousand dollars, was put into place by the Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera, and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Javier Martnez- Acha, and by the Deputy Minister of Academic Education, Agnes de Cotes, who emphasized the importance of recognizing those who have dedicated their lives to enriching the Panamanian cultural identity. The discourse of the writer Endara was developed as a symbolic dialogue with Rogelio Sinsor, through whom she referred to his cultural diversity with his profound and his words and his cultural diversity, as a person with his relative to his own name and his cultural diversity.

During his intervention, Minister María Eugenia Herrera reminded the figures that have been worthy of this decoration throughout the years: Dona elsie Alvarado de Ricord, first to receive her, as well as Tristan Solarte, Carlos Francisco Changmarín, Pedro Rivera, Demetrio Fábrega, Álvaro Menéndez Franco, César Young, José Franco, Justo Arroyo, Moravia Ochoa, Manuel Orestes Nieto and Bertalicia Peralta, who have left an indelible mark in the cultural memory of the country.

The incumbent of Culture expressed: "Today, the Panamanian state adds to this distinguished list the name of a writer whose work has been deeply intertwined with the history, identity and complexities of the Panamanian being: Don Ernesto Endara."

"That decoration recognizes not only his esthetic quality but his contribution to thought, culture and strengthening his national identity and his commitment to his word as an instrument of reflection and a vehicle of liberty," she added.

The day ended with the presentation of the well-known actor Alejandro Lagrotta, who put his final clasp to a night dedicated to honor the written word and to those who turn it into a legacy.
