Panama City April 20, 2026 - COCO, Panama's Contemporary Dance Company, presented VERANERA on April 15 at the Áurea Baby Torrijos Theater, in Ciudad de las Artes, with two full-room functions, marking a significant moment within the company's 2026 season.

The piece, directed by Panamanian choreographer Marlyn Attie, propose an exploration of the Panamanian summer as collective experience: heat, breeze, rhythm and energy shared among the bodies. On stage, eight dancers with live musicians build a sensory landscape where the movement dialogues with music and the environment, generating a close and intertwining experience for the public.

"One of the challenges of the proposal was intersectionality, integrating Andrea Rebolledo's costume design (Mott Project) and Jonathan Valdivieso's original music, in collaboration with the musicians Eric Blanquicet and Carlos Quiros. Rebolledo's practice, focused on upcycling and the transformation of materials under the concept of" deconstructing to build, "is activated as part of the choreographic language, establishing a dialogue between fashion and movement. At the same time, live music brings rhythm and emotion, and building with the body an engenic landscape that amplifies the experience.

The event also included a didactic function at morning time, aimed at means and guests, and reaffirmed COCO's commitment to democratization of access to contemporary dance and the formation of new audiences. The event had the presence of institutional and cultural figures, including Veronica Arosemena, representative of the Mayor's office, and Gianni Bianchini of the Ministry of Culture, who accompanied the company at this presentation.

To COCO, this role represented an important milestone, with the first time that the company was represented at the stage of the Teatro Áurea Baby Torrijos, after its consolidation as a company resident in Ciudad de las Artes since 2025 with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Panama.

Following this premiere, VERANERA will start a national tour in August with presentations scheduled at cities such as Colón, Chitre and David. That tour forms part of the company's commitment to democratization of access to contemporary dance in Panama, leading its work to new audiences and strengthening the development of performing arts at national level.
