Panama Opens International Call to Elect New Director (a) Titular of its National Symphony Orchestra

Panama, April 2, 2026. The Ministry of Culture announces the opening of the second call for an International Competition for the selection of the Director (a) Titular of the National Symphony Orchestra of Panama (OSN), season 2026.
The interested parties may submit their documentation from 22 to 27 April 2026 through the portal of the Ministry of Culture, where they have to complete their form and attach their established requirements.
That call, officialised by Resolution N ° MC-OAL-R-046-2026 published in Official Gazette, invites directors and directors of national and international backgrounds to be part of a competitive process that puts Panama as a cultural reference point in the region.
The call requires academic training in orchestral direction, experience with national and international scenarios, an up-to-date artistic life sheet and an artistic project that puts forward its vision for the development of the National Symphony Orchestra.
The face-to-face hearings will be held from 11 to 15 May 2026, at the Herbert Auditorium of Castro, from 7: 30 a.m. to 10: 30 a.m., bringing together the select candidates at an intense artistic day that will put to the test their interpretative capacity, leadership and mastery of the symphony repertoire.
The process will complete on May 15th at 7: 00 p.m. with a final evaluating concert at the Aurea Baby Torrijos Multifunctional Theater, where finalists will have an opportunity to conduct the orchestra in an open public stage.
The contest's Repertoire will include iconic works by great universal composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Igor Stravinsky, Johannes Brahms and Claude Debussy, which will guarantee a high technical and artistic level at every stage of the contest.
The participants will be evaluated by a Jury with three specialists: a national representative and two international Justices, ensuring a transparent, strict and high-level process.
With this call, the Ministry of Culture continues to promote initiatives that strengthen cultural institutions, promote talent and consolidate the National Symphony Orchestra of Panama as an artistic reference point both inside and outside the country.
