Panama February 14, 2026. Each year, on Carnival Saturday, the traditional Paseo de Balsas of the Aquatic Carnival of Penonomé is held at Penonomé, a cultural demonstration with several decades of history that has been established as one of the most awaited traditions of carrot parties in the province of Coclé.

According to Max Morrell, a member of the Board of Directors of the Aquatic Carnival of Penonomé, this tradition had its origins in pits that descended from the Zaratí River to the resort Las Mendozas, with time and time integrating to the combinations of the neighborhoods, princesses and elaborate allegories.

"The parade takes place at the Zaratí River, whose waters serve as a stage for pits decorated by local artisan, turned into floating paddles that display creativity, identity and tradition. Young people of the place are dedicated to leading them on a short course, enabling the public to appreciate every proposal closely," Morrell explained.

Although culecas concentrate much of the Jolgorio, the paddle ride remains unique and attractive, culminating in a tipple where a Panamanian murga welcomes princesses between music and dance. A festive closure that highlights Penonomé's cultural pride and the value of a tradition that, year after year, continues to give color and life to the Aquatic Carnival.
