The National Ballet of Panama relives one of the most memorable productions of its trajectory with the return of "The Lake of the Cisnes," a leading work of the international classical repertoire.

 

After 25 years after his last complete presentation by the Panama National Ballet, this iconic ballet will be held again on 4, 5 and 6 July at the National Theater, marking an historic event for Panamanian culture.

 

Founded as a symbol of the artistic development of the country, Panama's National Ballet has been from its very beginning a platform for technical excellence, national talent training and the projection of classical dance at local and international stage.

 

Throughout its history, the company has grown a reputation for commitment, discipline and creativity, presenting works that have been shown as a sign of public collective memory.

One of these unforgettable productions was precisely The Lake of the Cisnes in June 2000, presented at the Anayansi Theater at the Atlapa Convention Center.

 

Under the artistic direction of master Sasa Adamovic, and with the participation of national and international figures as Corina Dumescu, Alexa Gutiérrez, Cristina Quijano, Ramón Villamil and more than 58 stage dancers, that assembly became an artistic reference.

 

Today, a quarter of a century later, the National Ballet is proud to pay tribute to its legacy with a renewed and deeply respectful version of this work, which combines tradition and renewal.

 

The new production will have choreography with an original by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, adapted by his outstanding choreographer Kostantine Kosjukov, known for his classical formation and his contemporary artistic vision.

 

With Piotr Ilich Chaikovski's music, The Lake of the Cisnes tells about the story of Princess Odette, transformed into a swan by a spell, and Prince Siegfried, who seeks to break the enchantment with an eternal love vote. The duality of the characters of Odette and Odile (the White and Black Cisne) offers one of the greatest technical and interpretative challenges of the classical ballet.

 

That new version will bring together a first level national cast, carefully selected and prepared to face the artistic demand for assembly. Also, we will have the special participation of the well-known dancer Nicolai Gorodeskei, who has already conquered the Panamanian public with his performance at Carmen.

 

The return of El Lake de los Cisnes celebrates not only the beauty of an immortal work but also the perseverance, evolution and maturation of Panama's National Ballet, which continues to forge a strong and transcendent cultural identity.
