The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) was present at the mejorana National Festival with the participation of 40 artisans who traded their products and students from the Peasant Heritage Group of Rio de Jesús, Veraguas, who with cheerful tunes became part of the delegation at the parade of carts.

At the age of 75 at the festival, at the stand of the mejorana, the Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera sent a message on behalf of the National Government, recognizing this event as a symbol of national identity and a meeting place to proudly celebrate our traditions.

The Gala's presentation included a tribute to 72 queens and princesses who at the time played an important role in the historic course of the festival since 1955. Those who have been killed were also reminded by an recognition of their families.

The event was an enabling event to distinguish work from men and women who have been leading the festival during their 75-year existence.

That activity was accompanied by Deputy Minister Arianne Benedetti and some of the MiCultura's directors who, with their elegant folklore attire, gave recognition and prize to the winners.

Benedetti, with his directors, gave the Gold Medal to Sebastian Varga, first place winner at the Acordion Rogelio "Gelo" Córdoba contest.

The mejorana Festival is a platform to motivate new generations to learn and get to know our traditions through traditional competitions with musical performance. It's also an engine that promotes economic development in the region, providing outreach spaces for artisan, traditional cuisine, popular dances and cultural tourism with a positive impact on hotels, restaurants and tourist sites.

The Ministry of Culture, through the National Government, grants 50 thousand balboas to this festival, in accordance with Act No. 115 of 10 December 2013.
