To set up a plan to restore the historic and cultural value of the Casco Antiguo of La Villa de Los Santos and the Center for Higher Studies of Fine Arts of Chitre, currently facing degradation and abandonment, is one of the plans of the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) for the region of Azuero.

That decision was made after that the Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera, accompanied by close partners and local authorities made a tour of the above mentioned sites.

Realizing the interest of Minister Herrera, Mayor of Los Santos, Raúl Montenegro expressed his gratitude for his visit and his interest in restoring the site and with this in mind the possibility of establishing cooperation agreements so that once they have been restored they will be an engine for economic, cultural and tourist development of the region.

Among the buildings visited were the Museum of Nationality, the Church of San Atanasio, the old building of the Province of Los Santos and the Center for Higher Studies of Fine Arts of Chitre.

Minister Herrera stated that the National directors of the ministerial entity, among them Raúl Castro, Cultural Heritage Advisor, Ivis Moreno, General Secretary, Gianni Bianchini, National Director of The Arts, Aura Araúz, Administrative Director, Algis Díaz, Regional Director of Los Santos and Aristides Burgos, will have the responsibility to follow up with restoration projects.
