The City of the Arts of the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) held the closure of the National Dance Meeting with the presentation of the itinerant work "Raiz: entre-knitting," that brought together emerging artists, dance professionals and the public at large.
The contemporary dance show, held in several spaces of the City of the Arts, included the participation of children, youth and adults with ages ranging from 5 to 70.
Oraris Mariñas, artistic director of the Wata Company, emphasized: "The work 'Raiz' was designed for urban spaces and an intergenerational public. Approximately 50 participants with different levels of modern, classical and urban dance experience have been united with this experience, including people who aren't professional dancers."
For his part, Rhenan Fernández, coordinator of the National Dance Meeting, commented: "We are very satisfied with the results of this meeting as we have been able to decentralise the event and get them to provinces such as Coclé, Colón, Panama West and Veraguas. At each of these locations we have classical and modern dance shows and workshops aimed at a diverse public, including students, families and dance professionals."
Highlights of events in different provinces include:
• Western Panama: At the Cerro Silvestre Basic Educational Center, Urban Moyra Dancer presented an urban dance show.
• Veraguas: A free workshop of contemporary dance was held at Santiago Mall, and was taught by Veronica Vásquez and attracted girls and youth from different dance academies.
• Colón: At Abel Bravo College, the public enjoyed a lively presentation by Coco Dance and Creative Space groups. Also, in collaboration with the Colón Anchor Festival, the dance piece "Tititi" by Moses García and "Bruta" by Carla Lozano at Atlantis Plaza was presented.
The National Conference of Dance, organized by the Ministry of Culture through the National Direction of the Arts, was held with face to face from 10 to 31 August. That initiative offered a number of workshops and shows at theatres and outdoor spaces with the aim of expanding access to dance and strengthening culture throughout the country.
