Since 1962, every March 27, theater professionals, theatrical organizations, universities and theater lovers have been sitting as a party celebration of World Theater Day as a way to enbest this form of artistic demonstration that fascinates, amuses, interns and at the same time shows different realities and recesses characters for all public.

In this regard, the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) at the City of Las Artes and in celebration of this date paid tribute to his high specialist, Enrique Gutiérrez Padrel, known as "Cucharita," and his singer and actress Nilena Zisopulos, as well as his posthumous recognition to his stage director José Quintero.

The program that saw these recognitions included an interesting talk by actor Alejandro Bichir, currently serving as an ambassador of Mexico to Panama, who with his wife also actress Maricruz Nájera shared his anecdotes of his stage jobs, his growth as his family performing theater and how to be happy, living and passionate about his artistic discipline.

"That celebration is very important, we are at the City of Las Artes, where after several decades the School of Theater has a worthy place where those who come to prepare for this art have a home where they can enjoy living rooms with a decent equipment for them to learn make up, lights, and where there are passionate teachers especially a youth with hope," said Giselle González Villarrué, Minister of Culture.

About the honors

José Quintero

He was a stage director, a Panamanian producer and paedagogue, mainly known for his modifications to his playwright's works by Eugene O'Neill. He was a winner of two Tony awards and stood out for his dramatic theater. He was described as one of the most acclaimed theater directors of the twentieth century. His playwright career was developed in the United States, where he died in February 1999.

Nilena Zisopulos

singer and actress, studied singing at the University of Southwestern Louisiana and held theater courses at Ganexa with masters Aurelio paredes and Carlos Bromley. At his age 17 she was hired as an artist at the CBS label under which she recorded two long-term albums with the direction of master Toby Muñoz.
