As part of actions to preserve our heritage and project a healthy and pleasant place for visitors, the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) through the office of the Casco Antiguo (OCA) undertook, for the second time, a day of cleanup of historic beaches, squares and sites within the Casco Antiguo.

More than a hundred volunteers from entities such as the Fire Corps, Interinstitutional Protection System (SPI), San Felipe Communal Board, Social Development Ministry, as well as Udelas, UTP and University of Panama students have been meeting for an early hour to contribute to the improvement of the historic centre of Panama City.

The task that began simultaneously at 8: 30 a.m. and covered locations such as Independence Plaza, Herrera Plaza and Santa Ana Plaza, as well as the beaches of the Baluarte de las Monjas, Santo Domingo and La Noria where participants assembled with a distinctive color to be more striking this event.

To this activity, members of the Association of Friends and Neighbors of Casco Antiguo (AVACA), Seeds of Knowledge Foundation and students of Don Bosco Technical Institute have also been added and have been given an opportunity to conduct their hours of social work and have seen the importance of being proponents for the conservation of our tourist sites.

"We have been well welcomed by the institutions, even several have been at both cleanup sessions. We will soon be adding more entities," said Yam Morales, a cultural promoter of the OCA.

Morales added that "what we wish to achieve with these days apart from keeping the historic centre clear, is to create a sense of belonging for each of our monuments, spots and beaches, which represent our country's history."

"That's the second activity of this kind that's been undertaken and that's why we have been trying to conduct a monthly activity with a view to passing into concrete action and to making ourselves responsible for maintaining, caring for our environment and being a guarantor of our heritage," Morales reaffirmed.
