SUMMARY OF THE SIXTH ORDINARY MEETING OF EDUCATION and CULTURE MINISTERS FROM CECC-SICA

Following two days of sessions of the XLVI Regular Meeting of the CECC / SICA Council of Ministers of Education and Culture, meeting in Panama, member countries agreed on actions to promote projects and programmes in the fields of Culture and Education.
Panama held, through ministers of culture, Giselle González Villarrué, the Pro tempore Chair of the CECC / SICA and the Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, the Protempore Chair of the Central American Cultural and Educational Coordination.
In the cultural area, it was agreed to approve the project to safeguard the Afro-descendant Intangible Cultural Heritage of the SICA region and to instruct the SE-CECC to undertake the actions of co-ordination for its implementation at the Ministries of Culture with the support of the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Latin America (CRESPIAL), the Multicountry Office of the UNESCO in San José, Costa Rica and the Central American Black Organization (ONECA).
Furthermore, about the World Conference on Cultural Policies MONDIACULT 2022, inputs prepared by the SE-CECC, including gender equity, were approved as guiding elements for the regional position of the countries of the SICA at MONDIACULT 2022.
It was also felt that the proposal for the II Cultural Meeting of Young People from the SICA region was received and approved and that member countries should join this event led by the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Culture to conduct in August 2022.
The Roadmap was also adopted for the establishment of an inter-institutional technical committee to combat illicit traffic in cultural property in the SICA region and to instruct the SE-CECC to follow up, in co-ordination with the Republic of Panama, with a view to setting up an action plan to conduct the AFA-FTI programme on football in the school population.
The strengthening of research units and strengthening of a national network of educational researchers have been approved in Education.
The Regional Policy for the Recognition, Validation and Accreditation of Learning Results for Migrants was adopted and the tools put at the disposal of the Andrés Bello Convention to articulate with that Policy in the region will be established as a basis.
The representatives of the member countries have finally elected Roberto Suárez of Dominican Republic as his new executive secretary at the CECC / SICA for 2022-2026.
