INTEGRAL and SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FROM Portobelo and San LorenzoQ, Colón PROVINCE, AVANZAN and GEN EMPLOYMENTS

With the impetus of the Tourist Cabinet attached to the Ministry of the President, works are advanced related to the conservation of the Cultural and Natural Heritage and the Community Development Plan of the Portobelo District, which is financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (BID).
The project to restore the Portobelo Customs includes Museography, with an advanced 6% of the work and an investment of 3.8 million. That project will generate 150 direct jobs in the community during its implementation and will be launched in two years.
Additionally, the recovery of the San Lorenzo fort will be advanced, with an investment of $4.9 million in the creation of a museum that will generate about 150 jobs and have a 21% advance in its construction process. Rehab of 16.3 km onto San Lorenzo fort will be advanced in this same area.
On the other hand, projects such as the Water Potabilization Plant for the Portobelo District are currently under way under the cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Environment and the Institute of Aqueduct and National Alcantillates (IDaan).
The Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (Miviot) has submitted alternatives to land and will be evaluated by an inter-institutional commission with the Miviot, MiAmbiente and ANATI. The Commission will have the responsibility to coordinate with local authorities and families concerned with the submission of a resettlement proposal.
All these projects are intended to seek sustainable and inclusive social, economic and cultural well-being of the different social groups at the historic site of Portobelo and San Lorenzo.
The Interinstitutional Commission that promotes these works includes MIVIOT, Mi Ambiente (MIAMBIENT), Public Works (MOP), Culture (MiCultura), National Land Administration Authority (ANATI), Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), Municipality of Portobelo and Maritime Authority of Panama (AMP).
It aims at developing comprehensive actions to strengthen the tourism sector, such as the conservation of the historic architecture of Portobelo and San Lorenzo and the development of tourism experiences that have been transformed into jobs that will improve the quality of life of the local population.
