MiCultura announces that it soon closes convocation of 'Roberto Lewis' contest

The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) reports that up to June 3 registration will be open for those interested in participating in the XLI version of the Roberto Lewis National Visual Arts Competition, which this year celebrates with an additional category called "Bicentennial Category," on the occasion of the Bicentennial of Spanish Panama's Independence.
The contest, established in Official Gazette 29205, includes artists with an age of 18, Panamanian by birth or naturalization, resident in and outside the national territory and of other nationalities with more than eight years (8) of residence duly registered by the competent authorities.
The Department of Visual arts of the National Directorate of The Arts, an organisation of this contest indicates that the jobs that have been submitted will have to be unpublished, have been previously exposed through no means of communication or social networks until the end of the contest, have been without participation in any previous contest and have been more than three years after they have been performed.
MiCultura pays tribute to Panamanian plastic artists Julio Augusto Zachrisson, Juan Antonio Alvarado and Mario Francisco Calvit, who through their merits at national and international level and their outstanding trajectory have contributed to the history of Panamanian plastic. That issue will consist of five sections as digital art, photography, sculpture, painting and bicentennial.
According to the terms and conditions of the competition, every artist interested in participating can do so up to two categories with a work in each and a work in the bicentennial category. The works submitted by the contestant have to be signed otherwise they will be automatically disqualified. elsy Acosta Gallardo, (painting), Basilio González Castillo (digital art), Yaribeth Hernández Ábrego (Fotografía) and Manuel Montilla (Sculpture) were first winners of this contest in 2020.
About the honors
Julio Augusto Zachrisson:
He was born in 1930. His first studies of painting are performed under the direction of Juan Manuel Cedeño. He resides in Mexico and forms at the Institute of Fine Arts. He holds exhibitions in Italy and Spain. He's recognized as the master of engraving in Panama and Central America.
Mario Francisco Calvit
He was born in 1933. He studied his secondary training at the School of Plastic Arts of Panama. He felt his heir to his teachers Juan Manuel Cedeño, Alfredo Sinclair, Salomon Ponce Aguilera and Cyrus Oduber. His works reflect sensitivities for nature and human condition.
Juan Antonio Alvarado
He was born in 1938. He studied and painted at Alberto Dutary's workshop under his direction. He was awarded by the UNESCO to study painting in Japan. He's one of the artists dedicated to Isthmean abstract art and one of the pioneers of nonfigure painting.
The Ministry of Culture holds this contest that looks after the most outstanding of Panamanian visual arts with the aim of promoting and stimulating art in Panama.
