"Gifting a poem," MiCultura honors poetry

The Ministry of Culture, as part of the International Day of Poesy, through his addresses as The Arts and Citizenship and Cultural Rights, developed his activity "Gifting a poem," where officials of this entity exchanged verses and poems as a way to promote reading, recreate poetry recitals and increase the visibility of poetry to the internal cultural entity.

Poems and verses of national authors, with themes to feelings, friendship, women and work among others, were read and interpreted by each of their readers who used their creativity to translate them into scrolls, paintings, photographs and so forth.

Poetry, practised throughout history throughout all cultures and every continent, speaks about our common humanity and our shared values and transformed the most simple poem into a powerful catalyst for dialogue and peace. On February 5, 1998, editor Antonio Pastor Bustamante requested the organization UNESCO to create World Day of Poesy.

The World Day of Poetry, held every year on March 21, commemorates one of the most precious forms of human expression and linguistic and identity, so with many events and multiple readings, acts are held at different latitudes of the planet with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression.

According to the Royal Spanish Academy, poetry is explained as the manifestation of beauty or aesthetic feeling through word, verse or prose. while the poet, writer and oral narrator, Carlos Fong defines it as the art of knitting words and making reality a poetic fact, to give meaning to the world and to life, the poet who evokes past to recoup legendary moments and figure out potential realities.

Daniel Dominguez, national director of the arts emphasized that the activity "I give you a poem" became a quirk, where partners from the arts and cultural rights and citizenship addresses moved to the different departments of MiCultura to read them poetry from Panamanian and Latin American authors.

Also, it was very exciting because in several of the administrative units, we were received with poetry, so with this activity we realize that poetry is a space where we transmit emotions, where we share concerns, needs, dreams and desires, it is necessary that poetry be always present in the soul and heights of every human being, Dominguez added.
