Cynasts and MiCultura united to amend regulations of Cinema Act

Representatives of trade unions and film associations met with the team at the Ministry of Culture, through the Cinema Board (DICINE), to resume the work tables to amend the regulations of the 2012 Cinema Act.

The meeting was attended by directors of the Panama Cinematographic Association (ASSOCINE), the Procinema guild and the Network of Audiovisual Creators of Panama, who expressed their satisfaction with the reactivation of jobs that seek consensus how to improve the conditions of the Panamanian film industry to make them more efficient for the benefit of all.

Fariba Hawkins, representing Procinema, commented about the positive extent of this type of approach between government and association to share experiences that help improve processes in the Panamanian industry.

The president of ASSOCINE, Luis pacheco, also reported about the work as a whole that reflected progress with amendments to the regulations of the film law.

The contribution to the Regulation of the Cinema Act will allow an update of the regulations to achieve improvements in administrative processes as well as strengthening the bases of the Fondo Cine National Competition, training and promotion projects, the creation of a short films contest, the development of promotion and distribution strategies for Panamanian film production and the establishment of the National Cinematographic Council.

For his part, Sheila González, director of DICINE, stated that it was extremely important to put into practice the work that had been initiated some months earlier as they were the basis for giving the local film industry sustainability.
