Panama, March 18, 2026. - The Cultural Calendar of Pinta Panama Art Week 2026 officially begins by strengthening itself as the epicentre of contemporary art in the region, presenting a proposal that intertwines territorial identity with visual avant-garde: "Territories in connection." The agenda ends March 22.

The opening, starring with the central exhibition "Territories in Connection," takes place under the curatoriums of Irene Gelfman. The sample proposes a conceptual path that explores the invisible links between landscape, history and globalization, bringing together works that challenge geographical boundaries to find points of convergence in human experience.

Cultural Minister María Eugenia Herrera stated that this platform celebrates contemporary creation and strengthens links between artists, curators, institutions and public, strengthening Panama as a strategic node of cultural exchange and a continental example of public policy for the creative economy.

"From the Ministry of Culture, we strongly believe that art is an essential tool for the dialogue, reflection and construction of more conscious, sensitive and profound societies. Panama Art Week challenges that capacity of art to transcend boundaries, generate critical thought and open up new ways of understanding our identity and the time we live," added Herrera.

The final moment of the opening came from the hand of the artist Ana Elena Tejera and her performance "Selva Humana." That piece of expanded cinema and body movement was a powerful evocation of communities and ecosystems that were killed under the waters during the construction of the Panama Canal.

Through a circular dance and wrapped projections about an interpreter's body, Tejera gets visual and echo archives from a lost territory to emerge. The work works as a historic recovery ritual, where the jungle and forgotten memories find a new space to breathe in front of the viewer.

The artistic intervention about a Porsche Macan Electric, performed by the artist Alexandra Izrastzoff, was presented as part of the activations of the inaugural day and worked live on the vehicle during the event. The work takes as its starting point the landscape and the Panamanian foliage, proposing a crossing between art, territory and contemporary mobility.

Following the inaugural gala, Pinta Panama will give way to a week filled with cultural events, including: Conversatoriums with international artists and curators, guided tours by the main gallery participants, interactive workshops that seek to bring contemporary art closer to new public and urban interventions at different locations of the city.
