About SICA
The Central American Integration System (SICA) is the institutional framework for the integration of the Central American region, established by the States of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Subsequently, they became full members of Belize in 2000 and from 2013 onwards, the Dominican Republic.
The establishment of the SICA was established on December 13, 1991 and was supported by the General Assembly of the Organization of the United Nations (UN), by its Resolution A / 48 L of December 10, 1993, with the Tegucigalpa Protocol duly registered with it and enabling it to be invoked internationally and also enabling the regional organs and institutions of the SICA to engage with the United Nations system.
Its fundamental goal was to achieve the integration of Central America as a region of peace, freedom, democracy and development, firmly supported by respect for and protection and promotion of human rights.
