Panama, January 12, 2026. - To have up-to-date information and to design sound public and private policies are the main aims of creating the National Register of Museums. From this database, the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) will be able to better plan, prioritize actions, design targeted policies and target resources more equitable and efficient.

That registration is made possible by the work with the Network of Museums and Visitor Centres of Panama and the National Director of Museums of MiCultura, aligned with Act 175, that recognizes the role of the Ministry of Culture and lays down the importance of work jointly with the Network of Museums and Visitor Centres of Panama as natural partners in the development of the sector.

Minister María Eugenia Herrera explained that with the information collected, a clear and specific Roadmap will be available for issues such as preventive maintenance, long-term policies and responsible investments. The first results of these searches are expected by the end of May.

That initiative, for the first time Panama will have systematic and up-to-date information about the national museums and museum spaces, both public and private, community and mixed management, and will expand knowledge and management of the country's museum sector.

The National Director of Museums, Raúl Castro Zachrisson, emphasized the value of collaborative work put into place with the Network of Museums and Visitors's Centres of Panama. He explained that this articulation shows that institutional cooperation is the way to strengthen the culture of the country.

He accompanied at the main table Minister Herrera, national director of Museums, Raúl Castro Zachrisson and Adriana Sautu, president of the Network of Museums and Visitor Centres of Panama. Representatives of the national museums, directors of MiCultura and the media participated at the meeting.
