Panama, December 18, 2025. - The film's team "It happened in January," directed by Panamanian filmmaker Luis Romero, today shared the details of the creative process, the international tour of the project and the steps that are currently under way, and finally put it into the cinema rooms in 2027.

The project was a winner of the Fondo Cine of Panama, awarded by the Ministry of Culture through the National Cinema Management. It was also supported by the IBERMEDIA co-production fund and has been involved with several international laboratories and markets of relevance to the film industry.

The film was inspired by the play of the same name by Panamanian writer Mireya Hernández and winner of the 2006 Ricardo Miró Award.
"It happened in January" is a film intertwining theater, cinema and documentary to reflect about Panamanian identity and the historic events of January 9, 1964, from a contemporary glance.

The story follows a diverse group of actors gathered to stage a play about historic events, exhibiting social, political and cultural tensions that still resound in Panamanian society.

The event was attended by Arianne Benedetti, deputy ministers of culture, Sheila González, national film director, Luis Tosar, Spanish actor with a number of Goya Awards and Indhyra Serrano, a renowned film and television actress in Colombia and Jalsen Santana, an important actor with a leading role in Dominican Republic cinema and Lucho Gotti, Isabel Burgos and Luis Gustavo Macías and Michelle Alpízar and Juan David Guardia.
