Panama, March 29, 2025 - La Mitra, in La Chorro District, was filled with color and tradition while celebrating the 32nd edition of the National Folk Festival of La Mitra, an event that has been keeping the cultural and gastronomic identity of the region alive since 1990.

The Ministry of Culture, through the Folklore National Directorate, supported this great festival. His director, José Alberto Sosa, with local authorities and the mayor of La Sorrera, Eloy Chong, began his celebration with his traditional ribbon cut.

The festival starved with a great parade through the main streets of La Mitra, where the Queen, Alejandra Victoria Hill, was crowned with an atmosphere of party and tradition, accompanied by children's, provincial and local queens.

On Saturday, March 28, the Ministry of Culture organized a folklore convivious with the students of the sector, who enjoyed old challenges such as the race of tights, race in sac, leap of rope and flight of comets, encouraging the transmission of customs to new generations.

At the Cultural House of La Mitra, an enriching meeting with the National Association of Mejoraneras was held, where expert José Sosa addressed the folkloric costumes, Orlando Barcas Negras shared about the construction of quincha houses and Efraín Gutiérrez emphasized the importance of the best and iconic Panamanian instrument.

The festival also paid tribute to iconic figures of culture, such as Matildo Escudero, with the "Folk Corner" and traditional activities such as milling and traditional oven.

The Ministry of Culture was also present at the folk parade with the participation of the national director of the arts, Gianni Bianchini, who was the champion of the event, accompanied by representatives and provincial authorities.

Throughout his 32 years, this event has been established as a meeting place for folklore lovers, offering drum contest, billing board, singer and accordion as well as typical dances and artistic presentations for all ages. Also, it has been a key platform for local artisan and entrepreneurs, promoting the regional economy.
