In the framework of the "World Theater Day," the Ministry of Culture held an event of recognition for 13 outstanding figures from the Panamanian theater, in honor of its invaluable contribution to the artistic and cultural development of the country.

The honors include Aurea "Beby" Torrijos, Agustín Clement, Abdiel Tapia, Juan Manuel Ferrer, Pablo Salas, Daniel Gómez Nates, Mariela Aragon, Ligia "Masha" Armuelles, Maritza Vernaza, Edgar Soberón Torchia, Félix Gómez, Luis Salazar and Zelideth Rosales.

The Secretary General of MiCultura, Ivis Moreno, emphasized in his speech that "while commemorating this day, we should reflect together on our responsibility to support and value performing arts, because through them we have an impact on audiences and build our society."

During the ceremony, José Manuel Sánchez Cozzarelli highlighted the ministry's commitment to artistic training and reported that currently the National School of Theater has 250 enrolled students and 18 teachers dedicated to teaching boards.

For his part, Aristides Burgos, the national director of artistic education, emphasized the importance of continuous support for the theater and mentioned that "The theater is part of national life. These 13 figures have greatly contributed to artistic work and we need their support to continue to enrich the culture of the country."

The actress Mariela Aragon shared her feelings for this tribute: "One loves and gets passionate about the theater. To know that you have been leapt and an institution recognizes your work is something really exciting. To young people who wish to do theater, I say to train and seek their talent and strengthen them."

The program included the presentation of extracts of theatrical pieces performed by students from the School of Theater as well as musical pieces by students from the School of Music.

The event, organized by the Section of Artistics and The Arts and the Theater School of the Ministry of Culture, reaffirms its commitment to the growth and strengthening of the theater in Panama and celebrates those who have dedicated their lives to this art.

The World Theater Day was held every year on March 27, from 1961, established by the International Theater Institute in that same year.
