MiCultura Announces winners of the third version of the Roque Cordero Competition

Panama, October 15, 2020 -At a virtual ceremony, the Ministry of Culture opened copies and published the names of the winners of the third edition of the National Music Roque Cordero Music Composition Competition that awards national excellence in music in five categories as Solo, Coro, Orquesta de Ámara, Banda Sympónica and Orquesta Sympónica.

The Jury formed by José Luis Turina of Spain, Nelly Beatriz Gómez of Argentina and Alfonso Fuentes Colón of Puerto Rico, with international composers and with an outstanding track record within their countries, selected three winners, two awards declared deserts and awarded five honorary mentions, thus recognizing the musical work of the contestants.

Daniel Dominguez, national director of The Arts of MiCultura explained that despite the adversity of a Coronavirus who has been trying to bend the planet and have been unable to achieve this, we have been able to conduct all our competitions digitally, as artists from different creative disciplines have been unable to stop the march and their imagination.

It's an honor through this national contest of musical composition to pay a tribute to one of the musicians and composers of Isthma par excellence: Roque Cordero, so we are very pleased to reward the Panamanian musicians, Domínguez stated.

For the category Solo the Jury failed to favor Emiliano Pardo Tristan with the work "Sonata in Blue," highlighting them as an excellent correspondence between the ideas and their conduct through a level guitarist writing put at the service of the environment with verses of Pedro Salinas, Ruben dario and Rafael Alberti that lead each of the three movements that integrate the score. Also, they determined that the piece "Dance of the Aurora" for harp, by the authorship of Samuel Ivan Emanuel Robles AReas, received the mention of honor.

Eslaw Xavier Castillo Funes with "Inefable" was put up with the category of Symphony Band, where Isaiah Joshua Rodriguez Sánchez with "Urraaca" and "1989" (Membros de la Invasion) of Emiliano Pardo Tristan as first and second mention respectively.

According to evaluating members, "Inefable" was chosen by the impetus that cheers up the whole work while maintaining from beginning to end, through a discourse filled with energy that will allow us to appreciate a magnificent knowledge of the different resources of the Symphony Band.

While in the category Orquesta de Casa the jury decided by "Cantata para una Soldado" by Samuel Ivan Emmanuel Robles Areas, indicating that she was rewarded for his approach from a text of his own composer, made with production techniques put at the service of a musical discourse filled with contrasts and with great wealth of dramatic and expressive ethnic details.

The categories chorus and symphony orchestra were deserted but were awarded an honorary reference to: Erick Parris Browne with "Cantate Domino" (choir) and Luis Carlos Pérez Burgos with "Blue" (symphony orchestra)

The award will be made virtual and will be announced through social networks of the Ministry of Culture.
