MiCultura gives order to conduct to secure structures of the José Museum of Obaldia.

Panama, September 22, 2020 -The Ministry of Culture gave an order to conduct the works to secure structures of the José De Obaldía Orejuela Museum of History and Art, located at Casco Antiguo of the city of David, Reg.
The tasks awarded with an amount of 9 thousand balboas will be performed by the company Ingeniamento Landau S.A., and they include the atoning of the front balcony and the roof to avoid the collapse of the structure that is more than 185 years old, the design of pounding structure plans as well as the dismantling of tiles for protection, the supply of materials and the labor force for the installation of that structure and the re-installation of tiles.
At the event, where representatives of civil society and local governments participated, the director of MiCultura in Chiriquí, Bolívar Jaén, explained that these jobs seek to hold the balcony that is about to collapse. The first phase of the museum's recovery was achieved with these jobs.
"MiCultura aims to designate funds to start with the second phase of recovery of the museum where operations will be awarded for a diagnosis of the state of the museum, plans for its restoration and design of a new museum," Jaén added.
For his part, Anayansi Chichaco, National Director of Museums of MiCultura added that this initiative forms part of the recovery plan of national museums where Reina Torres de Arauz's Anthropological Museum will soon start its restoration work and new museography while Portobelo's Customs is currently under bidding.

The vice-governor of Chiriquí, Paola Alvarez, Felipe Ariel Rodriguez, from the CECOM-RO competitiveness centre, and the representative of David Eeste, Luis Benitez, Roger Patiño, an educational promoter at Chiriquí, and Kenet Landau of the contractor Ingeniamento Landau S.A. and Elsa Rodriguez, with responsibility for Casa Gallegos at Barrio Bolívar, participated in this activity.
The José De Obaldía History and Art Museum of the City of David has its name in honor of his lawyer and politician, Don José de Obaldía. That house represents one of the last vestiges of the regional architecture with Spanish influence. That museum had six exhibition rooms: Archaeological Room, Spanish Presence Room, Religious Art Room, Departmental History Room, Obaldía Room and Republican History Room.
