The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) is undertaking a number of activities aimed at promoting reading, literary creativity, writing and attrition at educational centers and libraries at Ngäbe Buglé, Coclé and Western Panama, with the aim of guaranteeing access to the right to reading throughout the country.

Those initiatives, led by the MiCultura Cultural Rights and Citizenship Section, are being undertaken with close collaboration with local actors, with an aim to have a positive impact on communities and to strengthen the reader culture in different regions.

One of the most outstanding activities is the "Festivals of Reading and Thought," that will be held on October 10 at the community of Cerro Otoe, correction of Hato Culantro, District of Mironó, at Ngäbe Buglé. During this day, more than 40 teachers, students and parents will come together to turn the event into an true celebration of knowledge and critical thought.

Two programs designed to stimulate creative thought through reading and writing will be put into place in the province of Coclé: "I write, then I exist," on 9 October at the Retirement of Pajonal, aimed at the students at the José de los Reyes Vasquez Educational Center and at the Escuela Víctor Pérez Flores and "To walk with his hands," to be held on 10 October at the Escuela Los Reyes, Retimiento de La Pintada and 11 October at the Sofia Quiros de Tebeira School at Penonomé.

In Western Panama, activities will continue at the Hortencio Public Library of Icaza, at La Chorro, where workshops will be offered for children, youth and adults with the aim of encouraging literary creativity throughout all phases of life.

That cultural effort was made possible by the collaboration of strategic partners such as the Forum Foundation, the official nightschool at Penonomé and the Family Parents Club, who join with MiCultura's commitment to extend the right to read to every corner of the country.
