The Ministry of Culture commemorated World Folklore Day last 22 August at its institutional headquarters with a number of activities that emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Panama's cultural traditions.

During the day, exhibitions and presentations have been held that have highlighted vital elements of Panamanian folklore, such as regional clothing and provincial customs.

Among the participants was Folklorist Shoshanna Levy, who gave a paper about diversity of traditions in the different provinces of the country and about the relevance of typical dressings. For her part, artisan teacher Lidia María Guerra presented her paper focused on traditional Panamanian clothing with a special focus on pollera, nightsittings and a painted hat.

Lilianely Emarilis Brenes Diaz was also present and was recognized for his triumph in the category of pollera shaded at the pollera National Competition as well as several folkloric groupings, including the Panama Folkloric Ballet Ritmos and Roots and the Folkloric Ballet Danzas Today.

The Minister of Culture, María Eugenia Herrera, emphasized the importance of people who have been keeping these traditions alive, from whom they have been singing copies and those who have made traditional garments. He emphasized that, in an increasingly modern world, it's crucial to preserve and transmit these knowledge to future generations.

"On August 22, we celebrate the richness of our homeland's folklore and the value of our people's knowledge. as a Ministry, we are committed to the study, conservation and dissemination of these traditions so that they will endure forever," emphasized Minister Herrera.

The activity also had the presence of Ivis Moreno, General Secretary, Gianni Bianchini, National Director of the Arts and Raúl Castro, Advisor to the Ministry, with directors, chiefs, co-workers and special guests.

The event culminated with a celebration at which all the attendees proudly wore their folkloric suits, and they walked and enjoyed their typical music and dances.
