The Panama National Ballet commemorates with great pride its 52 years of history with the presentation of the classic ballet "La Bayadere." That prestigious show will be held on August 23 and 24 at the National Theater, under the direction of Graciela Guillén, currently director of the Panama National Ballet.

"La Bayadere," a work filled with drama and action, was set up in India from the 19th century and was inspired by the dramas of the Indian poet Kālidāsa and by poems of the Hindu tradition. The ballet, created by French choreographer Marius Petipa and with music by Ludwig Minkus, was originally represented in four acts and seven paintings, offering an artistic repertoire of luxury.

The cast for this occasion includes 75 talented dancers from Panama's National Ballet, complemented by a group of students from different academies throughout the country. That joint effort underscores the company's commitment to excellence and development of new talents in the field of dance.

Gloria Barrios, director of the National Dance Company, emphasized: "We have an audience that faithfully follows us and with young people passionate about continuing our legacy. Our goal is to give new talents an opportunity to share stage with the professionals of the National Ballet of Panama, encouraging them to grow and advance in this profession, which is highly gratifying and meaningful."
