Representatives of UNESCO and of the Program for Recovery of the Lima Historical Center (Prolima), as well as national and international experts visited the historic heritage centers of Colón Province listed as the World Heritage list, such as El Castillo de San Lorenzo El Real de Chagres, the Afro-panamaic Memory Museum, Royal Customs of Portobelo.

Enrique López Hurtado, charged with the Cultural Sector of the Regional Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for Central America, Mexico and Colombia, emphasized the value of these spaces of discussion, as is the Vivo Center Forum.

"I have been greatly impressed with this frank and horizontal dialogue that brings officials and civil society and experts closer to better management of our historic centers," López Hurtado said.

The regional specialist added that "about the tour I recognize in the field the efforts of the Panamanian government through the Ministry of Culture to strengthen the governance of heritage sites and their better management and conservation."

"What I can say about all of the elements that threaten heritage, that's knowledge and lack of interest, that's what's best and what we can work with," said the representative of UNESCO.

"What I wish to highlight, however, is the efforts being made and I'm sure they will bear fruit," added López Hurtado.

Luis Martín Bogdanovich, manager of Prolima with reference to the mentioned sites "stated that this is a wonder from which Panamanian people have to be very proud. It's very gratifying how this space that isn't only important for Panama's history but for the whole region has been recovering."

Sandra Cerna, director of the Workshop School, San Antonio de Cajamarca, (Peru) said "The work that the Ministry of Culture and other social partners are currently doing with great importance and this multidisciplinary and intersectional approach that have been put into the work tables of this forum."

"We have seen as the historic centre of Panama City, and this recovery of the Monumental area is being achieved and all this success lies with the role of the Ministry of Culture," added Cerna.

Tomas Mendizábal, director of the Centro de Investigaciones Históricas Anthropológicas y Cultural AIP (CIHAC), shared with the visitors the results of the Research that have been undertaken at this old Spanish fortification of colonial time.

Also, architect Eustorgio Márquez of the Cultural Heritage Management of the Ministry of Culture did the tour with the specialists explaining the process of restoration phases at the San Lorenzo fort and the management currently under way at the Royal Customs of Portobelo with the Afro-panamaic memory museum and its fortifying.

That tour forms part of the first Centro Vivo Forum to be held in Panama City with the aim of strengthening institutional strategic alliances to advance sustainable urban development in Panama.

The first Forum, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Panama through the Office of the Casco Antiguo in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), with the support of the Embassy of Peru in Panama, a guest country in this first version of the Forum.
