< strong > Monument at Amador will tell the story of the Galician's contribution to the construction of Canal < / strong >

A tribute to the more than ten thousand Galician workers who worked 118 years ago with the construction of the Panama Canal was presented on Saturday 24 February at Amador's Calzada with the participation of the president of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, ministers of state among them, the incumbent of Culture, Giselle González Villarrué and special guests.

The monument called "Spanish Workers at the Building of the Panama Canal 'is composed of four bronze figures representing workers in full work of retirement from the ground with their clothing and tools, symbolizing all the men and women who have been outstanding for their capacity to work, Ricardo Gago detailed president of the Nosatorian Foundation leading to this recognition.

The Nosatorro Foundation was born with the aim of giving a tribute to the more than 8,000 workers from Galicia who participated in the construction of the Canal in 1904 and that, moreover, many of them decided to set up in Panama.

The details for this work representing men that actually existed were obtained by the Bolivian sculptor, Gonzalo Sánchez Mendizábal, who built on photo archives to rescue the form of his dressings and his physiomics, thus translating Ernesto Suero, Eugenio Álvarez Rodriguez, Miguel Meza and José Vega.
