MiCultura Realizes to Media, Diplomatic Corps and Artistic Community

In the presence of ministers of state, Diplomatic Corps, national and regional directors and representatives of the artistic community of the country, the Minister of Culture (MiCultura), Giselle González Villarrué outlined his management's accountability by highlighting important achievements in structures, cultural rights, defence of cultural heritage and training of artists, among other issues.
The headquarters of the newly inaugurated capital City of Las Artes, MiCultura's incumbent gave a detailed presentation of his management that responded to different actions of the president's Government Plan, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen.
In infrastructure she quoted the City of Las Artes with more than 30 thousand square metres and referred to the Cultural Center of Colón that is built in the building that housed Abel Bravo School and its opening is scheduled for March 31.
He also referred to other structures such as the Metropolitan Cultural Center that will be delivered within 60 days and the Anel Omar Rodriguez in Aguadulce, the Folklore centre in Las Tablas, that of Changuinola and the bidding for the construction of the future Estelina Tebeira Cultural Center in Penonomé, which are among the achievements managed by this administration.
In other areas, Minister González Villarrué highlighted the scope of the Panama Youth Orchestra and Choir Network that has been contributing to the training of about seven thousand children and adolescents throughout the country.
He also highlighted the implementation of the Peasant Heritage program that forms children in learning for the interpretation of typical tools such as best practice and violin.
He also highlighted the recovery of two important historic buildings such as Portobelo's Customs and San Lorenzo's Royal Castle as well as other historic locations that are part of the Transitory Colonial Route and that this administration manages its recognition of world heritage by UNESCO.
In accountability, the Minister referred to MiCultura as a "youth ministry that's taking giant steps" and highlighted issues such as support to promote the film industry in Panama at its different stages, creation of the Cultural account with the support of UNESCO, the program of Creative Economics and the cultural, economic and tourist impetus of Casco Antiguo.
He referred to the historic recovery of 349 archaeological pieces that were in the Netherlands, Mexico and Germany and that are of great historic value to the country and that are considered to be the greatest recovery of this kind in Central America.
He referred to examples of the creation of a program to train chorus and orchestras with children and youth with some form of disability and the production of a special menu in Braille language for people with visual disabilities and currently applied at seven restaurants in Panama City and with an important participation by his deputy Minister Gabriel González.
He added that Panama has achieved great cultural achievements at international level as the president of IBERSCENA, the vice president of the Inter-American Cultural Committee of the Organization of American States. A congress of ministers and directors of culture from the region with SECC-SICA and the recognition of the UNESCO about best practices of the Armila Tortle Festival Program was held in Panama.
The success reached by MiCultura at the first time at the National Crafts Fair was among other points noted by Minister González Villarrué, who said that one of the challenges for this year was to leave "a high stick" to be a challenge for the next administrations.
Meanwhile, Reubén Farje, an OAS representative in Panama, noted that the accountability of MiCultura has been "dynamic, different and very cultural" and that it has impressed several representatives of the diplomatic body in Panama, especially his contribution to cinema, theater, the National Crafts Feria and especially to what has been achieved in a short while while considering that this is a new ministry.
Meanwhile, Morocco's ambassador to Panama, Bouchra Boudchiche admitted that she was impressed with not only work but the quality of the tasks performed by the Ministry of Culture in so little time that she helped to strengthen the Panamanian identity.
