< strong > Panama continues with the rescue of archaeological pieces < / strong >

Four pre-Columbian archaeological pieces from the Coclé region, under care of the Panama embassy in Germany, were repatriated to his government after a joint work by the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs.

Giselle González Villarrué, Minister of Culture and specialist officials from the National Cultural Heritage Office, participated in the opening of the box containing the pieces, where his originality and good status were verified.

Roxana Pino, an archaeologist at the national direction of Cultural Heritage, stated that "these pieces are of polychroma ceramics with animal zoomorphic design, with colors, purple, black and Red, that are related to the cosmovision of the groups that lived in that region.

"The archaeological pieces are from the period from 600 to 800 AD (Conte style) to 1,500 AD (Parita style)," confirmed the specialist.

For his part, Rubén Henríquez from the same administrative unit stated that "it's first time that an administration worries about recovering and assuming the costs and transferring parts for their protection and protection."

These objects were the result of a donation by the Canadian citizen Nabil Meralli, who acquired all 4 archaeological pieces at an auction by the Casa Gerhard Hirsch Nachfolger at Munich on September 21, 2021.

That recovery had been requested by the Government of Panama on 18 September 2021, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the repatriation of seven pre-Columbian pieces that had been auctioned into Germany and that belonged to the Cultural Heritage of the Central American country and had been trafficked illegally.

These pieces will be held under the care of the Ministry of Culture for their protection and will be exhibited at the re-opening of Reina Torres Museum of Araúz.
