The Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) revealed the names of the winners of the National Prize of Literature Ricardo Miró 2023, at its octagnth first anniversary, in its five categories: Counting, Essay, Novela, Poetry and Theater.
This year, personalities from national and international letters were charged with choosing the works that won this contest as follows:
The Essay Section won Damus Serrano Guerra with the work "The literature of Panama in its globalism" with the pseudonym Débora. While in the genre Teatro the award was for José Durango Polo with the literary text "Balcones del arrabal," pseudonym Casco Viejo.
The Poetry Section was won by Javier Fairy with the poemary "Paul Celan goes to the Sena 1970 ″ with the pseudonym Mika
Whereas the complainant Javier Medina Bernal He won at Novela with his play "The Faithful and the Voids" with his pseudonym, Dran Nesto and also earned his triumph in the genus "I count with" Tribugia of snow and other tales "under his pseudonym Bax Sbi.
The winning works were evaluated by international jurors as: Ana María Shua of Argentina, Plinio Chahin of Dominican Republic, José Antonio Baujín Pérez, Cuba, María Bonilla, Costa Rica, Claudio Aprile of Argentina, Basilio Belliard of Dominican Republic, Carmen Ollé Nava of Peru, Diego Vargas Gaete of Chile, Giovanni Rodriguez of Honduras and Rafael de Ávila of Cuba.
For Panama, leading writers form this select group: Justo Arroyo, Isabel Barragan de Turner, Edwin Cedeño, Giovanna Benedetti and Anais Moran Rovi.
The contest included 172 literary proposals distributed in 33 novels, 10 essays and 26 plays and 55 poemaries and 48 collection of stories.
The literary party continues with a varied, cultural program, open to the public that includes: lectures, talks, workshops, recitals and dramatized reading, at different locations as: headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Anita Villalaz theater and at the University of Panama. Finalizing on Friday, October 13, with the award gala, at the National Theater, where a tribute will be paid to Don Aristides Martínez Ortega.
